First tip: Salt
If you think salt is the big baddie in your kitchen, banish it to the laundry. It can be used as a mild abrasive to get stains off your hands and if you add 2 tablespoons of salt to the wash when you are washing new clothes or linen, it will set the colour. I think it works as well if you wash in hot water as well as it does when I wash in cold.
Second Tip: Yukky smells.
Use Baking soda, otherwise known as bicarbonate of soda for gazillions of uses. The most important use for young/new mums is that you can make a paste of it and sponge over furniture that has stained with baby/child/animal vomit. Leave it to dry and them vacuum up. On older smells, you may need two applications. Works on carpets, furniture, mattresses, woollen bedding.
Third Tip: Glass Cleaner
Vinegar smells bad but is wonderful for a host of things around the house. The first and for me the useful at the moment is as a window cleaner - our upstairs has 4 sets of ranchslider doors and heaps of windows as well, so easy and economical glass cleaner is a bonus. I use roughly 2 tablespoons of malt or white vinegar in approx 7 - 8 litre of water and if i want a super sparkly job, I use scrunched up newspaper to clean and I do them when the sun is NOT shining on them.
